If you follow me, you probably know that I had a baby recently. The timing was seriously perfect- I would give birth, start my maternity leave, recover for a few weeks, then go back to USA for a while. When my maternity leave ends, it will be Ramadan, then Eid, so I would be able to spend a good chunk of time back home.
Then the pandemic happened and squashed any plans of travel I may have had. My friends and family were excited to do something for me for my birthday while I was in USA, but obviously that didn’t happen. I’m not one to make a big fuss out of my birthday, so it didn’t bother me honestly.
My husband usually does something nice for me on my birthday, but how could he this year? Everything is shut down- no stores, no restaurants, nothing. I wasn’t expecting much of anything, and to be honest, I didn’t mind.
But that’s not what happened. When I woke up I discovered that the apartment had been decorated, a cake ordered, and a lovely gift purchased. Somehow, in the middle of a pandemic when the country is shut down, my husband managed to put together such a nice surprise for me. It was really nice to spend the day in with my most loved ones, eating delicious cake, watching my daughter get excited over balloons, and watching netflix.
