Columbus Zoo

While my blog is primarily dedicated to my life here in the MENA region, specifically Saudi Arabia where I live, I do frequently travel. I don’t always post about my travels outside KSA because I don’t want to detract away from the main focus of my blog, but this one is too freaking cool not to share.

Mamdouh and I, in an effort to spend as much time with Dahlia as possible before the new baby came, decided to take a family trip to Columbus, Ohio. Now, I realize that this isn’t the most exciting place in the world… but she’s two. Anywhere that isn’t our apartment is exciting to her.

One of the top places on our list? The Columbus Zoo. None of us had ever gone before, but I have always heard great things about it. Its nice, the animals are well taken care of, it’s great for kids, etc. Obviously we had to check it out for ourselves.

Something worth noting about Mamdouh and I is that when we travel, we go into everything with no expectations. I guess since we both set the bar pretty low in that regard, everything is exciting to us. So imagine our excitement when we not only saw a giraffe, but found out that we could FEED THE GIRAFFE.

LOOK HOW CLOSE I WAS TO THIS GIRAFFE

I have seen giraffes before, but always from afar. This was the closest I have ever been to a giraffe. I could have fainted from the excitement. Dahlia really likes animals a lot, but when we were close to the giraffe, she froze in fear. She cried and tried to hide behind her father and myself. So we found ourselves, lost in a child-like excitement, feeding the giraffes sans Dahlia.

We did see a ton of other cool things at the zoo. I got to pet a possum. Dahlia pet a goat for the first time. I’m not going to bore you with our family photos, though. It is worth noting that Mamdouh had the best shirt for the zoo. He kept getting compliments all day. Can you believe he almost didn’t buy the shirt? How lucky is he that a certain wife talked him into getting it?
